JOB SUMMARY:

The job of the Head Volleyball Coach is to carry out the philosophy of the Athletic Program and be responsible for the daily operations of the program from planning and executing well-developed practices to managing equipment and personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Implements program policies and procedures, which align with the district’s standard operating procedures for coaches.
  • Relates well to student-athletes and demonstrates care for them beyond the sport experience.
  • Prioritizes sportsmanship, work ethic, organization, and communication with players, staff, families, and the community.
  • Displays positive qualities such as enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and loyalty.
  • Always represents the program with the appropriate behavior and integrity while developing and maintaining productive relationships with other employees, families, students, and opposing squads.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, families, staff, and the program.
  • Demonstrates support of the comprehensive athletic program.
  • Assumes responsibility for care of equipment and facilities being used.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful experience in sports as a participant and/or coach.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid Card.
  • Obtain other trainings and qualifications as required by WIAA.
  • Ability to pass a Federal Criminal Background check.
  • Strong and positive communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondences consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
  • Ability to display courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
  • Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of the position.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of information furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to identify and define problems and collect, and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  • Promotes a harassment-free environment.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, professional working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn and utilize office equipment, computers, and software especially as systems are upgraded.
  • Ability to learn and upgrade job skills to meet changing demands of the position.

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in full compliance with the district, School Board, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.

  • Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked.
  • Ability to incorporate lightheartedness into the workplace.
  • Ability to attend trainings or meetings as directed or appropriate.

REPORTS TO:  Athletic Director or designee.

WORK SCHEDULE: Summer drills start date as early as May 29, 2024. Fall season August 26, 2024 through November 16, 2024. Hours per day to be mutually agreed upon between the coach and the Athletic Director.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and benefits according to the Shelton Athletic-Activities Association.
