Summer school dates will be June 24th thru July 25th, Monday thru Thursday. Hours: 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM

This position supports summer school at the Shelton High School for secondary students.  Pay is according to the Level I Secretary Salary Schedule; the step placement will be according to the successful candidate's current step.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides secretarial service for summer school, working with students, staff, and the public.  It includes general clerical duties such as answering phones, intercoms, taking and delivering messages, mailing.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Depending upon individual assignment, the Secretary performs all or a combination of several of the following duties.  This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

  1. Greets students, staff, and visitors; determines their needs, directs them accordingly.
  2. Answers phones and intercoms and responds with appropriate information or directions.
  3. Understands and works with computer network(s).
  4. Attending service counters – students, staff and visitors requesting help and information.
  5. Prepares forms necessary for office use.
  6. Relays messages and instructions from and to supervisors or other staff members.
  7. Supervises copy machine area and general reception area.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office in a school environment.  Requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting.  Must be able to speak, hear and see.  Required to operate a multi-positioned telephone, computer, fax, and copy machine.  Be able to work efficiently while experiencing frequent interruptions and schedule changes.  Required to deal with a wide range of situations, behaviors, and information. Requires dexterity in the operation of computer equipment and manage a variety of record filing systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
  2. Experience working in schools preferred.
  3. Computer experience.
  4. Demonstrated communication skills written with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech, speaking with poise, voice control and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.
  5. Demonstrates high energy and professionalism.
  6. Demonstrates proficiency in basic math, including performing operations involving monetary units.
  7. Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  8. Dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  9. Read a variety of materials with understanding.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and benefits according to adopted salary schedule and negotiated agreement.
