Job Title: 3rd Shift Custodian  

Salary: The Hourly Rate range for the position is: Min.$18.32 - $23.90 Salary placement will be at Step 1 of the Nine Mile Classified Public Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Benefits: Each employee shall accumulate up to twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. (Example: An employee working 10 months will receive 10 days of sick leave.) A maximum of three (3) Annual Leave days are provided for all employees based on the employee’s scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.

Work Day/Work Year:  School Year Hours: Monday-Friday 8 hours 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm
                                         Summer Hours (6/15 - 8/28): Monday - Friday 8 hours 5:00 am - 1:30 pm

Nature and Scope of Job
To perform duties of complete cleaning of assigned facility. To provide a clean, comfortable, safe, and attractive environment for the students, staff, and patrons of the Nine Mile Falls School District. All general custodial and housekeeping related to a high school setting. This position will require securing the building and grounds as well as arming the security system upon leaving at the end of the shift.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Required Qualifications (Traits, Education, Experience, Training, physical requirements, etc.):

  1. Valid Washington Driver’s License.
  2. High School diploma or equivalent.
  3. Computer skills such as using email and dedicated programs that support Maintenance and Custodial.
  4. Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, walk, stoop, bend, climb ladders, and perform various types of labor in eight-hour shifts.
  5. Ability to work diligently, follow directives, and meet expectations of supervisor/principal without supervision.
  6. Ability to make sound judgments. 
  7. Demonstrated ability to work well with others and use time wisely.
  8. Demonstrated skill and experience in collaborating with other employees, developing work schedules, and monitoring multiple work tasks.
  9. Satisfactory overall work record, including attendance and demonstrated dependability

Desired Qualifications

  1. One year of experience working as a custodian/housekeeper. 
  2. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment where everyone sees the education of children as the mission.
  3. Ability to look at the current environment and willing to suggest areas for improvement. 
  4. Verifiable experience working in plumbing, sink repair, toilet repair, and other plumbing-related repair work.
  5. Verifiable experience in electrical repair, ballast repair, and lighting. 
  6. Experience working with irrigation, fire panels, and HVAC would be considered favorable. 

Primary Job Functions

  1. Maintain regular and punctual attendance
  2. Cleaning and Sanitizing Building 
  3. Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed; move furniture and equipment; dust areas as needed; wash furniture, walls, and fixtures; wash windows; apply floor products; operate cleaning equipment; do garbage collection and wash trash cans.
  4. Shovel snow off walks and steps and de-ice hard surface areas.
  5. Willingly follow directions of principal/supervisor without supervision while performing your duties up to standard and participate in planning and organizing work schedules.
  6. Responsible for securing the building (locking classrooms/hallways)
  7. Setting up for whole school events. (gym use)
  8. Supervision of students at the end of the school day as needed/requested.
  9. Communicate effectively with staff, students, and the maintenance department. 
  10. Direct support of large groups to organize and coordinate activities.
  11. General Maintenance and Repair.
  12. Public Relations.
  13. Address building safety concerns. 
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

Equipment Used

Computer, vacuum cleaner, lawn mower, floor scrubber, mop, cleaning supplies, maintenance tools and supplies, wet vacuum, wax applicator, electric hoist, hand truck, snow removal equipment, extractor, hand tools, scrubber/buffer, automatic scrubber, portable power tools, dolly, ladder, scaffolding, scissor lift, washer, dryer; occasional drywall repair and plaster application.

Environmental Demands:

  1. Air-conditioned building
  2. Occasional exposure to weather extremes.
  3. Fluorescent/LED lighting.
  4. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and supplies.
