Job Description

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions

  1. Plan, develop and implement courses of instruction designed to achieve essential learning and exit outcomes.
  2. Work cooperatively with administration and staff to develop and implement the instructional program.
  3. Provide an effective instructional environment.
  4. Maintain appropriate records.
  5. Teach the approved curriculum.
  6. Keep parents informed through conferences and/or reports of their students' progress.
  7. Develop and maintain a flexible, effective classroom learning environment.
  8. Work with students, staff, and community patrons in an amicable and productive manner.
  9. Provide for the supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required.
  10. Work to develop in students a sense of consideration for others and of responsibility for contributing to the benefit of the school.
  11. Participate in professional growth opportunities.

Other Functions:
  1. Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned.
  2. Opportunities in extracurricular activities.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  2. 4th-12th grade Science endorsement.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  1. Demonstrated strong skills and background in current trends, instructional methods and strategies in teaching students.
  2. Demonstrated strong skills and background in instructional methods including cooperative learning, questioning strategies, and concept development.
  3. Demonstrated evidence of effective classroom management skills.
  4. Demonstrated evidence of working successfully as part of a team.
  5. Knowledge of Common Core Standards and and ability to integrate them into the classroom.
  6. Demonstrated ability to use formative, summative, and performance assessment strategies.
  7. Demonstrated ability to establish individual and subgroup, whole class, and grade-level/content area student growth goals.
  8. Demonstrated ability to use student growth or achievement data from multiple assessments to show clear evidence of growth for most students.
  9. Demonstrated ability to use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
  10. Demonstrated willingness to work effectively with students, parents and staff.
  11. Demonstrated ability to develop and modify instructional programs to meet individual needs.
  12. Demonstrated ability to help students apply all core academic concepts to daily living.
  13. Demonstrated successful experience working with middle and high school students.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Prior teaching experience in the area of Science.
