Job Description

General Responsibilities:

To educate students in accordance with State Content and Performance Standards using the district’s adopted curriculum. Under general supervision, plans, organizes, and presents instruction and instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, listening, moving to music, and playing instruments.

Qualifications:

· BA degree in subject area in elementary or secondary education with appropriate major and minor

· Appropriate State of Alaska Teacher Certification

Duties:

· Enables students to develop an appreciation of the art of music.

· Demonstrates techniques to students in music concepts.

· Differentiates music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.

· Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

· Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, rehearsals, and music performances.

· Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.

· Understand the importance of the “Three R’s” Relationship, Rigor, and Relevance.

· Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

· Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.

· Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.

· Uses both formative and summative testing results to establish instructional priorities in the classroom.

· Integrates technology into classroom instruction.

· Appreciates cultural diversity.

· Maintains effective and efficient record-keeping procedures.

· Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.

· Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals regularly.

· Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment. Models teamwork and teacher leadership.

· Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.

· Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.

· Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating.

· Maintains a cooperative and positive relationship with supervisors and colleagues.

· Maintains an active professional growth effort through their participation in workshops, professional reading, in-service training, college or university courses, and committee membership.

· Maintain an appropriate and current certification.

· Contribute to the advancement of Board of Education adopted priorities.

· Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor. All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.
